Graduation Day and QR Codes?

Yes! This bright young Notre Dame graduate decided to up her options of gaining full-time employment by advertising her online profile to potential companies using a QR code on her graduation cap! Her unique and clever idea will hopefully land her that dream job. Some continue to doubt the effectiveness of QR codes, yet they are showing up all over the place with new and unique strategies. As a matter of fact, this picture was found on the growing popular social network Pinterest, which houses 1000’s of pages displaying unique QR code usage. Who knew even the Pinterest crowd was into QR codes?

With the USPS prepping another summer postage sale for marketers who utilize the QR code as a part of their direct mail promotion, QR usage is top of mind for many. Who doesn’t want to save a few bucks on postage utilizing the latest marketing craze anyway? Last summer SourceLink had thirty clients take advantage of the QR code promotion saving over $100,000 in postage. This July & August, the promotion is being offered again and will give an upfront postal discount of 2% for any mailer who uses a QR code to direct a recipient to a mobile site for purchase or utilizes a PURL linking them to a mobile-optimized site. Still need to know more about QR Codes? Watch our recorded webinar from last summer where SourceLink marketing experts and Mintel Comperemedia describe what these codes are, what to do with them and how businesses are using them in a variety of ways. And then, if you’re still intrigued? Check out our Pinterest QR code page and you’ll find unique and compelling design examples of how these codes are taking on new life and getting more creative each day.

For those of us who use the latest & greatest smart phones, you know how tedious it can be to type in anything on the touchscreen keyboard with frequent errors or auto-correct. So I say, shortcut me to a mobile site on my phone! Yes please!! If the offer is enticing and I am interested in a purchase or discovering more info, take me there quickly and save me the pain of typing out a long URL. Just today, I received a newsletter from my insurance company about a new mobile app for photographing your household contents and storing for any future claims. Sure, I can go to the app store, search for the app, click download, or hey – I can just scan the QR code printed at the bottom of the article and save a few steps. Effective and efficient – I’m all about them! I don’t think they are going anywhere soon, so if you haven’t yet, try them – you’ll like them too and save a few bucks in the process!
