US Post Office (USPS)

This week, the Postal Regulatory Commission issued an order that once the USPS recoups an additional $1.191 billion, the postal exigency surcharge may be removed. All in all, the Post Office is allowed to recoup a total of $3.957 billion (of which they've received $2.766 billion) from exigency, and a surcharge removal plan was filed June 2, 2014.

As of right now, a reprieve from postal exigent rates is not likely to happen before March or April of 2016. There may also be a standard rate increase based on the consumer price index next April, if the need is justified. Seems like we've almost finished weathering the storm with these postage rate increases, so here's hoping next year will be smoother sailing!
