Let Your Imagination Run Wild!

Do you ever ponder what the world will be like in another 100 years? Do you think that TV shows like Star Trek or comic books like Dick Tracy inspired the youth that were watching them way back then to invent a real personal communicator (cell phone)? It seems to me that history has proven that people with wild imaginations think up stuff like laser beams and space ships and then the geeks of the world actually make them happen.

The most basic cell phone today has more computing power than the ship that landed on the moon. When is the last time you noticed a pay phone or better yet a phone booth? How much longer before we are all flying around in our personal flying automobiles? This may sound crazy but there have already been prototypes of automobiles that navigate using GPS. If every vehicle on the road knew where every other vehicle was and how fast they are going there would be no need for traffic lights or stop signs. Think about that one for a minute.

Did you know that NASA has a ship in route to Mars to land a rover on the planet’s surface, due to land late August 5th or early on the 6th? The landing sequence alone requires six vehicle configurations, 76 pyrotechnic devices, the largest supersonic  parachute ever built, and more than 500,000 lines of code. This is an amazing time that we live in, so I ask again, what will it be like in another 100 years?

All of this is accomplished to some degree using technology, but it all has to start with imagination and believing that the impossible can be possible.
