Are you planning for a New Year’s party with the USPS yet?
Come January 2013, there will be some interesting changes occurring within the USPS and everyone needs to be well aware of them. I’ve attempted to summarize them below:
- Need to use an IMB (Intelligent Mail Barcode) to receive automation discounts
http://1.usa.gov/ItYL5K
- New Folded Self Mailer rules go into effect
http://1.usa.gov/puVStQ
- More USPS facilities will be closing and/or consolidating
http://1.usa.gov/R0uDir
- Oh, don’t forget postage will go up as well – as of today the CPI Cap is 2.57%
Since the election will hopefully be over by January, there are some of other issues that could be addressed with the new Congress as well such as Postal Reform and moving delivery from 6-day to 5-day delivery.
The USPS has previously announced that postal consolidations will not take place during the election season, but a major consolidation effort will be underway in 2013.
More to come for sure…
